Mzamba School Grade 2

The grassland around the mouth of the Mzamba River is located in the former Homeland Transkei, which was reintegrated into South Africa during the democratization, however has since then only experienced little structural improvements. To this day, the province Eastern Cape belongs to the poorest regions of the country. In collaboration with the Austrian association an independent school was founded, that would ensure adequate classrooms and an improved education for the children of the surrounding villages.

The classroom building for grade 1 was built by students of the Technical University of Munich. The concept of the building is based on the conditions of the subtropical climate along the coast as well as the educational requirements for an enhanced and integral form of education. Covered porches and a central courtyard were situated next to the classroom to create enriching outdoor spaces.
