Mzamba School Grade R

The preschool in Mzamba built with students from the Munich University of Applied Sciences makes up another section of the long-term development of the Ithuba School. This project created the setting for the extremely important offering of preschool care for the younger chidren of the community.

The complex of the preschool consists of a proper structure with restrooms, covered and open outdoor spaces, as well as separate gardens and playgrounds. The arrangement of buildings creates spaces for teaching in the outdoors that are sheltered from the wind and give access to the entrance of the school building. The making of the exterior walls out of concrete pillars and an infill of clay was a particular manner of reacting to the climatic and ecologic conditions of the surroundings.

An outer layer of plaster made out of the red sand of the surroundings creates a homogeneous surface and protects the construction of the exterior walls from the penetration of moisture through the intensive subtropical precipitation.
