Architecture-in-Development (A--D) is launching the 2025 edition of the Global Challenge—more than just a competition, it creates a platform for radical collaboration. By transforming architecture prizes as an incubator for bottom-up projects, the Challenge brings together diverse perspectives to tackle urgent social and ecological challenges. Today’s architectural innovation often prioritizes the needs of the clients, with talent, resources, and attention concentrated in the global top 10%. In the other 90%, there is an abundance of locally-led and nature-based innovation, borne out of necessity and urgency, showcasing ingenious solutions. We believe there’s incredible potential for innovation once these two worlds meet, exchange and learn from each other.

A--D exists to establish that connection, inspiring new ways of seeing, designing and making architecture. Shifting the current narrative from ‘Community in Need’ to ‘Community in Action’, we foster new Do-it-Together approaches and perspectives, forging new alliances that are capable of responding to the urgent social and ecological challenges of our time.
