iThemba Walkway Project Updates

In 2024, there is a proposal to entangle the Studio Hope teaching project with a design build toolkit between April to June 2024. This will enable the codesign and exchange with all 16 walkways whilst also implementing small elements that includes solar lighting, reusable benches, interactive paving and on-going mural design. 

“One of the greatest moments in history and legacy for me to see in our lifetime is a walkway which could symbolize hope and motivation for the upcoming generation and inspire each and every citizen of Cape Town from ward level to national. iThemba Walkway must be a good example of how any walkway in South Africa should be a space for peace and safety. A space for educational experience and knowledge. A tourism hub where people can learn more about where we come from and where we are going. We cannot do that alone. A strategic partnership will be needed to achieve this important mission as to beautify our public spaces which were in the past spaces of gangs and crime hot spots in which that narrative has now changed through community involvement.
