Philip Tidwell is an architectural designer and educator in Helsinki. His work and research focus on the intersection of climate, culture and materiality, particularly in the Nordic countries.
Teaching at Aalto University in Helsinki, Philip instructs lecture courses, design studios and seminars that focus on the relationship between form and material. In addition to teaching, he operates an independent design studio. His work and writing have earned recognition through numerous awards and competitions including a Princeton University Howard Crosby Butler Fellowship, a United States Fulbright Fellowship and the University of California’s Berkeley Prize for writing on architecture.
Philip received a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Studies from Washington University and studied as a visiting student at Columbia University's GSAPP and the Helsinki University of Technology. He earned his Master's degree in Architecture from Princeton University in 2011.
