James Benedict Brown is Associate Professor of Architecture at the Umeå School of Architecture at Umeå University in Västerbotten, Sweden. He studied Architecture at the University of Sheffield (2004, 2008) and wrote a PhD on the pedagogies of live projects in architectural education (Queen’s University Belfast, 2012). He has taught design, history and theory to undergraduate and graduate students at Norwich University of the Arts, Nottingham Trent University, De Montfort University, the Royal College of Art and the University of Nottingham, where for two years he was an Associate Tutor in the Department of Architecture & Built Environment’s Design & Build Studio in Limpopo, South Africa. He is the co-editor of A Gendered Profession (RIBA Publishing, 2016), the author of Mediated Space (RIBA Publishing, 2018) and formerly the Assistant Editor and Editor of the peer reviewed academic journal Charrette (2013-18).
