Professor of Practice William Sarnecky

WILLIAM SARNECKY is an architect, furniture designer and educator. Prior to returning full-time to American University of Sharjah in 2020, he spent three years splitting time between the University of Arizona and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. This followed eleven years teaching as an Associate Professor of Architecture at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in the UAE. He is currently a Professor of Practice there while maintaining a freelance design practice. His areas of teaching, practice and research interest include digital fabrication, furniture design and the “architecture of immediacy.” Outcomes from his furniture courses have been exhibited at Milan’s Salone Satellite and featured in Wallpaper* Magazine. His design and fabrication of the Salone Satellite exhibition booth received a Merit Award for Interiors from the AIA Middle East. Two successive design/build projects completed at AUS have also been professionally and academically awarded. Prior to his academic career, Sarnecky worked in award-winning critical design practices in Los Angeles, Pugh+Scarpa Architecture (now Brooks Scarpa) and Belzberg Architects. He is a licensed architect in the state of New Mexico. Sarnecky holds a Master of Architecture from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Arizona.
