Dr Kathryn Ewing

Kathryn Ewing is a Senior Lecturer in Urban Design at the School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics, University of Cape Town, South Africa. She is a professional Urban Designer, Architect and Planner. Her teaching and research focus on safe and inclusive cities, including the mapping of everyday informal occupation of urban land and the co-production of space in African cities. Her design practice focuses on the implementation of social projects and place-making in the public realm. As an integrated approach, her research builds on lessons from practice for policy development and academic teaching and knowledge exchange. She is a co-founding Director of Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrading Non-Profit Company in Cape Town.
